One issue I used to have with my students was that they had trouble organizing the information given in mixture problems, particularly when being asked to find how much was added to form a given amount of a solution. I developed a tabular method for doing these types of problems which seemed to help most of my students. Naming it “Mixture Tic-Tac-Toe” also took away a bit of the fear factor often present when they face word problems.
